From selfies to artistic self-portraits!

We won't judge you if you're a fan, or even a pro, when it comes to selfies. Nowadays we all know what the word "selfie" means. It's YOU, maybe with a filter, using a flattering angle, definitely something that takes multiple attempts before it's JUST right. Hey...we LOVE selfies!

But what if we pushed those ideas to the next level? It's what we do here at MCG, so let's make no exception when it comes to pictures of ourselves!

This week's lesson is all about taking deliberate and intentional self-portraits. It's a form of documenting oneself in the now. It means being authentic and vulnerable as we tap into deeper parts of ourselves. Maybe we find our alter-ego, or some wild persona. Perhaps it's an honest version of who we are without all the editing or filters. Whether we embellish or simplify who we are, self-portraits provide an excellent opportunity to tell the world that you are here, and that you, your emotions, and your experiences...are valid. :)

NOW! For the next 7 days, work on taking some self-portraits. Get creative. Have fun. Look around your house for inspiration. Remember, be deliberate! Think things through, spend time on this, and use photography basics (composition, lighting, perspective) to really add visual interest!

Below is a link to an article I found to be a great supplement to this. Inside, it will link you to more artists like the ones we looked at today.
