B&W&W Week Three

As review, I wanted to include some examples of different apertures and focus to help us better understand what all of our lens functions can and will do. The results will vary quite a bit depending on what our objective is, and what adjustments we decide on and make.

Can anyone guess what type of aperture was used here? Wide open and large or closed off and small?

What about here? What F Stop was more likely to be used here? f22 or f2.8?

The first photo is a small aperture, meaning it is letting less light in through the lens while capturing a great depth of field. This is what creates so much in focus. The f stop was likely close to an f16.

The portrait below is a large aperture, letting the most light in and creating a shallow depth of field. This was most likely shot at an f2.8.

Remember, focusing is also very important. Depending on your objective and desired results, it is more common to want sharp focus. Take time to move the focusing ring before each shot!
If an out-of-focus look is desired (remember, this is different than a shallow depth of field...), this is no problem! But still take time to adjust for this, as the focus will soften more and more.
